born IN ISOLATION. Fast, focused, fierce: The midas model
We started as a group of artists who shared the same frustrations with how visual effects was being done. Too much process. Too many handoffs. Too many talented people slowed down by layers of approval and systems that served the pipeline more than the work. We believed there had to be a smarter, cleaner way to do high-end VFX — without compromising quality. So we built it.
Cut the Fat, Not the Standards
Midas is lean by design. We’ve stripped away the things that waste time — bloated meetings, endless hierarchies, disconnected roles — and built a workflow that puts artists and problem-solving at the centre. We’ve delivered thousands of final shots on major productions with a small, focused team by cutting the fat, not the quality. That means fewer bottlenecks, more creative ownership, and a lot less waiting around. It works — not just for the team, but for the work itself.
From an Island, Built to Scale
Midas began with Marc Hutchings leading a group of talented artists quite isolated from other Soho visual effects houses, striving to prove ourselves with a small team and limited resources we found a camaraderie and a way of working that was naturally the most efficient. The separation gave us the space to build something different. We weren’t caught up in what everyone else was doing. We had room to rethink what really mattered, and how to get it done better and we found like minded team members who could adapt to this way of working. Over time those artists dispersed as projects came and went but Marc reformed the dream team when he moved on and those core members became Midas. This allowed us to finally have full control to explore exactly how we wanted to work.
That independent spirit still shapes everything we do. We’ve grown, worked on global productions, and scaled to meet serious demand — but we’ve never lost that sense of focus and self-reliance, we never stop evolving.
Problem-Solving Over Pass-Throughs
Here, artists don’t just tick boxes — they take ownership. From start to finish, you’re expected (and trusted) to figure things out, push things forward, and make the work better. This isn’t a studio of cogs in a machine — it’s one where you collaborate, contribute, and help solve the shot. That appeals to a certain kind of artist — the kind who notices everything, works fast without cutting corners, and takes pride in doing the job right. We’ve built the studio around this artist type.
Perfectionists Welcome
We don’t apologise for having high standards — we’re proud of them. But we also support each other in reaching them. Our culture is clear, collaborative, and craft-focused. It’s about the work and team work making it right. It’s not about ego. It’s about doing the work well — and doing it together.
The Right Size for the Right Reasons
We’re not trying to be the biggest. We’re trying to be the sharpest. We’ve seen what happens when studios scale without control — quality drops, people burn out, and nobody wins. We only grow when we find the right people. And we only take on work we believe we can deliver to the level we expect of ourselves.
This Is the Midas Way
Artist-led and independently built
Focused, fast, and high-quality
Ownership over handoffs
Lean by design — we cut the fat, not the craft
Perfectionism encouraged, egos discouraged
No bloated systems. No unnecessary stress. Just good work, done properly.
If that sounds like the kind of studio you’ve been looking for, we’d love to hear from you.
